Batswana have been advised to continue donning clothes with Botswana colours on Fridays. The call was made by the assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport & Culture Development Kefentse Mzwinila, saying as for the MPs that came as a directive from the president. Mzwinila made the call at the BOT50 sponsors appreciation dinner on Tuesday. Mzwinila said it is fitting to appreciate the effort that was put in by sponsors towards the BOT50 celebrations. He said it was because of the sponsors’ help that massive celebrations were hosted throughout the country on September 30, 2016. “It was a very difficult undertaking at first to convince companies to get on board with the celebrations. We thank those that showed the spirit of unity and partnered with the ministry in BOT50 celebrations,” he said.
The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development was tasked with organising the country’s Golden Jubilee celebrations. Mzwinila commended the committee for the splendid job it did to organise successful celebrations, insisting that this was made possible by the contribution made by different sponsors who came on board. “If it was not of the help that we got from you, we would not have achieved the mandate. We would not have been able to put together the magnificent celebrations that we had,” he said to the sponsors. The permanent secretary in the ministry Kago Ramokate reiterated the minister’s accolades towards the sponsors, saying the organisations remain an integral partner to the government. He said government alone could not have managed to bring together the masterpiece celebrations that Batswana witnessed. “Your contributions have gone a long way to help bring to Batswana all the goodies that they experienced during the independence celebrations,” he said.
Ramokate urged the organisations to continue with the good work they are doing in the society. He implored them and others to always partner with government in future to deliver for Batswana. The sponsors were given appreciation certificates for their contribution towards the BOT 50 celebrations. The ministry, however, did not disclose the contributions that were made by the different organisations towards the celebrations. Some of the sponsors include Barclays Bank Botswana, BOFINET, Choppies Group, Botswana Development Corporation, Debswana, Mascom, Diamond Trading Company, First National Bank Botswana, Letshego and Orange.
