This is political sabotage – Majaga

The MP for Nata/Gweta Paulson Majaga has cried foul at how some within his party – the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) – are trying hard to end his political career. In an interview after he was nearly jailed for failure to appear in court over a stock theft case, Majaga said sabotage was written all over the charges. I was not surprised when they tried to embarrass me by pushing for a 2006 case to be reinstated after it was dismissed in 2014,” said the livid and outspoken MP. He said his has been a dreadful career within the BDP as numerous efforts have been tried to discredit him since 2003 when he wanted to contest the parliamentary primary elections. He said this is being sponsored by some party leaders who have positioned their close allies to challenge him in 2018 primaries. “I am back in the black hole again. Stories have begun to appear about me and I am being portrayed as a hard-core criminal. They think that it would be funny to put the tragedy of my private life into a play,” said Majaga, who accused some top party leaders of being the architects of his problems.

He said some of the people have already started campaigning and his attempt to raise concern with relevant structures has been fruitless.  Another issue which he said is being used is that he has impregnated a school going girl, something which said has failed to dent his political career. Some of the people have been handpicked and appointed to high positions and are now abusing their positions to campaign in the constituency, hit out Majaga. Though he did not mention names, one of the people who is said to be interested in challenging him is the Director in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture Lawrence Ookeditse. He was part of the BDP’s Campaigning Strategy team in 2014 and member of its Communications and International Relations committee before he was appointed Director in MYSC. In recent interviews, Ookeditse has refused to comment on allegations that he is in interested in contesting the elections. Another potential challenger to Majaga is former Botswana Congress Party (BCP) parliamentary candidate for the area Ditiro Majadibodu who lost by 2954 votes to Majaga’s 3424 in 2014 General Elections.
