Magosi leaves civil service

Hardly three months after he was transferred from the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, Conservation and Tourism to that of Transport and Communications, Elias Magosi, has lived to his promise. Magosi, who had a tumultuous relationship with Minister Tshekedi Khama before he was transferred to Kitso Mokaila’s ministry, had made it clear that his days in the civil service were numbered. Last week Magosi fulfilled his promised by leaving the public service after spending only three months with Mokaila. Mokaila confirmed in an interview that indeed Magosi has resigned from public service. During the Parliamentary Committee on Statutory Bodies and State Enterprises last year Magosi revealed that his relationship with Tshekedi Khama has been damaged irreparably and has informed Permanent to the President about the issue. Magosi shocked many when he exposed how his principal disregarded corporate governance and run Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) singlehandedly. One of the advises which he said the Minister ignored was when he tried to show him that it was wrong to cut short a notice that was served by the former BTO CEO Thabo Dithebe. “I tried to advise Minister Khama that it was wrong to cut short the notice of BTO CEO but he ignored my advice. I have never been involved in the running affairs of BTO. A lot of meetings have been held without my knowledge,” noted Magosi. In December last year he was transferred to the ministry of Transport and Communications but lasted only until end of February.
