Smarting from their loss at the recent polls, the Botswana Congress Party has already started preparing for the 2019 General Elections.

Over the weekend, party faithful descended into Palapye where they held a leadership forum to evaluate the party’s performance in the recent general elections.

The 2014 General Elections has been one of the bad election years for the part ever since it was formed. BCP lost most of its candidate at parliament level managing to garner only a disappointing three seat.

Speaking on the sidelines of the forum BCP campaign manager, Thapelo Ndlovu said the forum was attended by leaders in all party structures from the wards to national and all the elections contenders.

Ndlovu explained that the purpose of the forum was to evaluate the party’s performance during the past elections. He admitted that the party did not do very well and they have to find out what went wrong.

Ndlovu further pointed out that the meeting was to come up with the way forward to the next coming general elections in 2019.  The BCP would be looking to improve the numbers of their representatives in Parliament as a result they are starting to pave the way as early as now.

BCP’s poor performance during the 2014 General Election has been seen by many as long coming. Even though BCP members were shocked about the results analysts say it is not surprising. Analysts believe that BCP committed suicide by refusing to enter opposition coalition. It still remains to be seen if the party will manage to stage a comeback in 2019 winning convincing seats to redeem their status.
