The UDC candidate Kenneth Masego Segokgo won the Tlokweng by-election with 4635 votes against Botswana Democratic Party Elijah Katse’s 2156 votes. Independent candidate Shirley Segokgo polled a paltry 57 votes. The constituency seat fell vacant after the death of former MP Same Bathobakae in November last year. Segokgo has thanked his campaign team and UDC leaders for working tirelessly to ensure that he won. “I won because Batlokwa stood by me, and some who are staying in Tlokweng. This is a true reflection that Batswana want change and they can stand for what they believe is the truth,” he declared. The results show a huge difference of those who voted in the 2014 general elections. UDC won then by a massive 6442 votes compared to BDP’s 3 867 and Botswana Congress Party’s 1 195 votes.
