The MP for Tati West Biggie Butale will on December 16 embark on a cycling expedition from Masunga through to Gaborone. He is expected to complete the journey on December 20. Through the race Butale intends to raise funds to build computer laboratories and ICT peripherals for 32 schools in Tati West Region. Butale will have stop overs in Francistown, Serule, Palapye, Mahalapye, Pilane and then finally Gaborone. Butale said he has identified those 32 schools and when doing the race, he will also do stopovers to teach people about the importance of ICT. “Achieving this goal is something we are happy to embark on as part of the adopt a school initiative by the government of Botswana,” he said. Even though it will be quite a challenging expedition, Butale insisted that he is in great shape to take this on as he has been practicing very hard. He said even though pedaling is more difficult and time consuming, he is excited that he will be doing something that will enable him to give back and the sense of pride in completing an independent tour for charity is what keeps him going. “One of the greatest ways of long distance cycling is that it breaks down social walls because we will be able to talk to people – I am happy for anyone who will talk to us on the way as they will gladly engage,” he said. Some of the partners in the race includes Native Impressions and the Ministry of Basic Education.
