UB, BITRI sign MOU

University of Botswana (UB) signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI) allowing the two institutions to work together in areas of research by sharing the resources and experience. The signing represented the formalisation of a partnership the parties have long enjoyed. UB Vice Chancellor Professor David Norris said collaboration was the best way of ensuring that great minds work together. “Most of the challenges cannot be solved by one discipline; you need different disciplines coming together to solve these challenges so when we collaborate then we can come with effective solutions to our problems,” he said. Morris said this will allow them to share ideas. BITRI CEO Shedden Masupe said they are fighting for researchers and that means they will collaborate with many universities to look at problems as a team. He said this will benefit UB because BITRI has qualified staff that is even competent to be lecturers. Masupe said there is a whole bouquet of projects that they are working on. “There is a whole bunch of projects that we are working on and we will be looking mostly on the technology side in order to assess each and every aspect of research and we will be doing many programmes,” he said. Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Martin Mokgwathi underlined that the partnership as quite a great moment for all of them, both the staff and the students of UB
