Gamodubu landfill fire, residents safe

Authorities have been on site beyond midnight to monitor the situation at Gamodubu Landfill, which is situated about 30 kilometres from the capital Gaborone, following Tuesday evening’s fire outbreak. Fire-fighters from Botswana Defence Force, Gaborone City Council and Kweneng District Council have been collectively working around the clock to put off the inferno around the Landfill. Residents of Gamodubu, who are staying about a few kilometres away from the incident, are safe as authorities have rounded the village to assess the situation.  Fire-fighters have been on location to monitor the situation throughout the night and ensure the safety of the residents and their property. In this regard, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development wishes to inform the public that the normal services at Gamodubu Landfills are thus affected.
