All is not well at the Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services (DISS) as there is growing allegations that the spy agency has been infiltrated by agents who are close to the former DISS Director General Isaac Kgosi.

This is said to have created divisions within the spy agency as there is mistrust among officers. The Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services (DISS) Director General Brigadier (R) Peter Magosi has denied allegations of indiscipline and divisions within the ranks of his officers. In an interview with this publication, Magosi vehemently denied that they have been infiltrated by rogue agents who worked with the former DISS DG.

Recently the DISS came under fire from Botswana Congress Party (BCP) President Dumelang Saleshando who accused them of being used to fight Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) internal factional wars. “Media reports indicate that President Masisi received reports from the DISS that there was likely to be chaos during the BDP primaries, prompting the party leadership to postpone them to this weekend. If true, why is the DISS involving itself with BDP issues?” he asked rhetorically on his social media page, adding that if the DISS is maintaining a watch over political parties, who do they report developments within the opposition to?

In response Magosi said they did not involve themselves in internal BDP factional wars but was quick to add that “if it borders on national security we are bound to step in.” Asked if he could reveal if indeed they helped the BDP during the postponement of their primary elections, Magosi said it depends on the nature of the information they are dealing with.“Our primary concern is national security of this country and its people. So any situation be it political or otherwise that threatens that, we will step in,” he said.

Ahead of the BDP primaries, which were postponed to August 25, DISS is alleged to have briefed President Mokgweetsi Masisi that some instigators have been planted in some constituencies to cause havoc during the primaries and advised that they be postponed. Highly placed sources alleged that some of the instigators were intelligence agents who worked with the former DISS administration and are not happy with the current leaders.

Israeli spy

Another great concern which is said to be troubling the current DISS bosses is the allegations that former President Ian Khama who is not in good terms with both President Masisi and Magosi has enlisted the services of a former Mossad mole who is in charge of his security. “The lady who is from Israel is one of the top snipers. She works at the office of the former President but we know she is the one who is in charge of his security,” revealed a top DISS agent.

The lady who always accompanies Khama on his trips to Mosu was once seen dancing with Khama and his security guards at Mosu after winning a football tournament. Magosi expressed ignorance on the allegations saying that DISS is the one that is in charge of former President Khama’s security detail.

Khama and his close associate, former DISS DG Colonel(R) Isaac Kgosi, had a close relationship with Israel's top intelligence agency Mossad. Some DISS officers were trained in Israel as well as procurement of intelligence equipment, the latest being the procurement of surveillance equipment bought with funds diverted from the National Petroleum Fund (NPF).

Magosi revealed that they are expecting a new Public Relations officer to resume work mid next month (September). Highly placed sources have revealed that a radio presenter from Moshupa has landed the job but Magosi declined to reveal the name. He denied that they have appointed Clifford Maribe as the Head of Communications.

"On Thursday I signed an offer letter. We are still waiting for that person to respond to our offer to say if s/he will accept it or not,” he said.
