Failure by Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry has turned Gambling Authority Botswana to illegal collect levy without the fund order, Committee on Statutory Bodies and State Enterprises has been learnt.

Appearing the committee Gambling Authority Chief Executive Officer Thulisizwe Johnson revealed that since 2015 they have tried to engage MITI to formulate the fund order to no avail. He said that they have so far collected p38 million which they are treating the account as payable and they are not using the money for any of their operations.

Johnson admitted that they know that they need a fund order before they can collect the levy but said that once the order is established they will transfer the funds. Another levy which the Statutory advised that it must be done through fund order is the Responsible Gambling levy which according to Johnson is used to educate people especially those addicted to gambling about its dangers.
