President Ian Khama on Friday met World War veterans after the commemoration of the Fallen Heroes Commemoration Day at the Three Dikgosi monument, Francistown, Selebi-Phikwe and Thebephatshwa airbase.
The Fallen Heroes Day is an annual occurrence intended to honour all service members who passed on in the service to the nation. BDF this year has extended the commemoration to include World War veterans and other personnel who have made significant contributions to the national security. The Fallen Heroes Day commemoration began on February 27, 2011 primarily to remember the 15 BDF members who were killed at the Lesoma Ambush on April 27, 1978 by the Rhodesian Regime. President Ian Khama, also Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, Cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, Dikgosi and other dignitaries attended the event.
