The Zebras is through to the semi-finals of the COSAFA Cup after kicking out Bafana Bafana in the quarterfinal match played yesterday (Sunday) at Moruleng stadium. They won 7-6 in a penalty shootout.
The game between the two rivals had ended goalless in regulation time. Peter Butler’s charges proved their determination to proceed to the next stage as they absorbed all the pressure form the hosts very well during game. Even though Bafana Bafana enjoyed much of possession, Butler’s men stood their ground.
The Zebras goalkeeper Kabelo Dambe thwarted all efforts by the South Africans in regulation time. Coach Butler has been quoted after the game, saying he is happy with the way his players played. The coach went on to say they will take each game as it comes.
The Zebras will now take on the winner between Malawi and Mozambique in the semi-finals on Thursday. Malawi and Mozambique will face each other today (Monday) for a chance to play the Zebras.
It is not only South Africa which crushed out of the COSAFA championship race as the defending champions Zambia also dropped went out. Zambia had a rude awaken by the impressive Namibian team beating them 5-4 on penalties. Namibia will now take on guests Ghana in the semi-finals.
