Add new firepower – Mogogi and Carl Finnigan
Township Rollers are taking part in the Maize Meal Cup in Rustenburg, South Africa, in one of their pre-season tournaments in preparation for the start of the season. The team is due back on July 12th after the long week tournament with Platinum Stars, Mpumalanga Black Aces and Bloemfontein Celtics. Rollers manager Motshegetsi Mafa said they were chosen to participate in the tournament because the organisers saw how Rollers handled Kaizer Chiefs in the CAF championship tournament and moreover their professionalism. Mafa confirmed the signing of Mogogi Gabonamong from Celtics in South Africa and Carl Finnigan from England to add more firepower to the team. This comes after the recent signing of coach Mark Harrison who was previously coached Chippa United in the 2013/14 season. Finnigan played under Harrison at Chippa United. He will be joining Jerome Ramatlhakwana and Jerome Louis as the new striker force of Township Rollers. Coach Harrison revealed that everything has gone well so far. He said that the 7-8 days that they will be in South Africa will give them enough time to bond as a team as they will be with each other on a day to day basis. They will play Bidvest Wits on Wednesday in a friendly match and then their tournament game will start with Platinum Stars in which if they manage to win they can then find themselves at the finals of the tournament. “Bidvest Wits are a very big team in SA and I think they will be a good challenge for the players, even Platinum Stars will give us a good challenge,” he said. Harrison said the challenges that the players will go through will enable him to know them personally and what they are made off, which will definitely allow him to see what he can do in order to polish them for the coming season.
