Botswana Optic Fibre Network (BOFINET) has signed a three-year P4.5m sponsorship contract with Botswana Softball Association (BSA). This is one of the biggest sponsorships to be allocated to a code other than football. The sponsorship is for the running of the league, development programmes and upgrading of grounds. The relationship between BSA and BOFINET started in 2014 with the latter putting in a P1m sponsorship for the league. BSA spokesperson Kelebogile Seitei hailed BOFINET’s recommitment to BSA, saying it showed that they met the sponsor’s expectations. Seitei said they are very aware that success does not come by chance but by double efforts.
BOFINET Strategy and Business Development Executive Thato Jansen said the passion that they saw in the players last year is what made them to decide to stick with BSA and help them progress further. Some P1.5 million has been allocated to the 2015/16 season alone. “We intend to build solid relationship in the three years that we will be with the code which will help us to map the way forward again,” he said. Jansen recognised that sport is an ingredient of socio economic growth and can improve stature of the country globally.
He said they remained committed to the BSA sponsorship as they want to ensure the realisation of strategic plan of the association through the sponsorship. He said they appreciate softball at BOFINET as this sponsorship is one of their most expensive corporate social responsibility initiatives. He recognised the power that sports has in the moulding young people and the nation. Since the sponsorship last year, this has surely motivated fierce and strong competition that makes the league interesting, something that BOFINET appreciates. He said this is the time for softball to be turning heads as the diamond pitch will be renovated further.
