The Botswana Football Association (BFA) has appointed Basadi Akoonyatse to the position of Acting Vice President – Administration. Akoonyatse will hold her new position in the BFA up to July 2016 when the association will elect new members of the NEC. Her appointment follows the departure of former VP – administration Tariq Babitseng who parted ways with the association after a controversy on association’s funds.
Akoonyatse takes the position from Susie Montsho who also held it on an acting basis. When explaining this BFA Chief Executive Officer Kitso Kemoeng said Akoonyatse’s appointment was done in accordance with articles 9.64 and 9.65 of the BFA constitution. Kemoeng said a unanimous decision was made by all executive committee members to appoint her to the position.
Akoonyatse first joined the BFA in 2012 as an additional member of the National Executive Committee (NEC). Prior to this, she served for a number of years as Chairperson of BFA Medical Committee. She was also head of the medical desk at the Botswana Africa Youth Games Organisation Committee (BAYGOC) secretariat.
She has served a term as Chairperson of Women in Sport Botswana (WASBO) as well as serving in other forums at the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) and the then Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) in the past years. Akoonyatse has also served in the CAF Medical Committee, and is a member of the National Advisory Anti-Doping Committee. She is also a CAF Match Commissioner. By profession Akoonyatse is a sport physiotherapist. With her vast experience in sport it is believed that she will execute her new responsibilities well.
