The Francistown School of Tennis (FST) players hit the headlines last August following their excellent results in their ‘August Tour’ which took them from Orapa to Gweru (Zimbabwe) and Benoni (South-Africa). That saw the rising stars bring home 14 Titles in just three tournaments for an impressive medal count of 24 medals.
It seems it has now become a routine for the Francistown School of Tennis young stars to rake titles wherever they go since the trend has been ongoing through September and October with 20 more titles won over the last two months.
In its quest to develop high level tennis players for Botswana, the FST regularly takes its top players to neighbouring countries to provide them with exposure to higher level competition. It is worth noting that in the last 3 months, 3 of the now renowned Francistown School of Tennis players have won a Singles Title in South Africa: Mark, as well as Naledi and Lesedi.
In their last trip to South Africa, made possible by the support of Air Botswana so that these promising young players could take part in national junior tournaments hosted near Cape Town, the young protégés of the leading Tennis Academy in the country faired more than honourably, with Lesedi winning the TSA One Ranking hosted in Stellenbosch from 08-10 October 2015.
As the Francistown School of Tennis Director Dominique Raguin puts it, “having three of our players winning a title in South Africa in the last 3 months is a very positive development. It shows that we are on the right track and we will need to make it a habit for our best players to go and challenge South African players so we can continue developing our players to a higher level.”
