Orapa United: mission accomplished

Orapa United have accomplished their five-year plan in style with the 3-1 thrashing of Township Rollers in the Mascom Top 8 Cup final in Francistown over the weekend. United came from a goal down and went on to win P1.2 million price money and trophy. This was the first ever Top 8 final the Orapa outfit participated in since the team’s formation in 2012. Coach Madinda Ndlovu’s charges showed character to outclass the high riding Rollers in the mouth-watering encounter. The win sealed Orapa United’s plan to win silverware in their fifth year of existence. In 2012 the team set itself a five-year plan that will see them evolve into a greater side representing Boteti region. In their first year they aimed to get promotion to the elite football as they were playing in Debswana First division north.
After gaining promotion their objective was to avoid relegation and stay in the premiere league. The following year was for the team to finish in the Top 8 position while the fourth was to be top contenders of the league honours.

All went according to plan for the Ostriches as Orapa United are affectionally known; they achieved all the objectives before finishing in style with the Top 8 final win. Orapa United spokesperson Tebatso Hule said the weekend win means a lot not only to the team but the rest of Boteti region. Hule said they will now be refocusing all attention on the league. “We believe that we still have a big chance of winning the league so we will not allow the Top 8 win get on the way,” said Hule. With the Mascom Top 8 trophy already bagged, the beMOBILE premier league trophy will be a welcome bonus for the Orapa outfit. According to Hule, winning the league will mean even greater achievement for the team. He said they will channel everything to win the league as well. Orapa United are left with two games and play the wounded Rollers again in the last match of the season – no doubt a championship decider.
