The 2015/2016 beMOBILE premiership awards are in doubt as league sponsors Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTCL) has pulled out of sponsoring the ceremony. The title sponsors finally broke the silence on the current on-goings at Botswana Premier league (BPL) this week. In a statement signed by BTCL Head of Sponsorship and Consumer Tiro Kganela, BTCL says it is concerned about the chaotic status of the league and wished for restoration of sanity. As a result the BTCL management has taken a position not to sponsor the 2015/2016 beMOBILE premiership awards ceremony. The ceremony was scheduled to be held on June 24 at GICC. This has left the Botswana Football and BPL in the lurch regarding the awards ceremony.

An emergency meeting is reported to have been held this morning (Wednesday) to discuss the awards and identify the way forward. Despite pulling out of sponsoring the awards ceremony BTCL has, however, promised to honour its contractual commitment to disburse undisputed title winners and individual awards price money. However this, according to the statement, will be done “as soon as the BFA furnishes us with official written confirmation of the 2015/2016 title and individual price winners”. In addition BFA & BPL have been requested to wrap up the 2015/16 season and deliver on their contractual obligations. These include among others to furnish the title sponsors with the end of the season report and audited financial accounts for the sponsorship funds. The title sponsors are hoping that the current happenings in local football could be addressed quickly. “We only hope that the current on-goings at BFA and its structures find a quick resolution to allow for preparations for the 2016/2017 season,” read the statement.
