Organisers of Botswana’s biggest race for charity, the Diacore Gaborone Marathon, have announced the opening of the registration process. According to information from the organisers, the registration is now open and will close on November 26, 2016 with the race set for March 7, 2017. “We are very excited to inform you that the Diacore Gaborone Marathon registration is now officially open and will close on November 26, 2016,” read the press release. With 6000 runners from over 30 countries worldwide participating in the 2016 edition more numbers are expected to grace next year’s marathon.
Diacore Gaborone Marathon PR and Marketing Manager Thabo Makgato said last year’s participation was influenced by the cool weather as well as the great exposure the marathon obtained from Super Sport. The marathon has been growing over the years and Makgato is optimistic that even in 2017 the numbers will continue to grow. The Diacore Gaborone Marathon is an event by PGM Foundation to raise money for charity. In the past two consecutive years (2015 & 2016) the marathon raised over a million pula, with all proceeds going to charitable organisations in Botswana.
