What was a boring first round of the Mascom Top 8 quarterfinals ended on a high note on Monday evening with BDF XI thrashing Gaborone United 3-1 at the National Stadium. Prior this game only one goal had been scored in the competition from the three matches that were played. BDF XI had shown their intensions early in the game, scoring first before GU pulled one back to level matters. However the army side scored two more goals to take the game out of GU’s reach. The win put BDF XI in a better position to proceed to the next round. In other matches that were played over the weekend Township Rollers beat Police XI 1-0. Defending champions Orapa United and Miscellaneous played to a goalless draw. Mascom Top 8 new entrants Jwaneng Galaxy and Mochudi Centre Chiefs also failed to find the back of the net with the game ending at 0-0. The teams will have a go at each other again during the second round which will be played from 11-13 November 2016. The finals of the championship will be played on the 1st April 2017.
