The suspense on who takes who in the Mascom Top 8 semi-finals continues with the draw expected to be held in January 2017. Township Rollers, Orapa United, BDF XI and Jwaneng Galaxy will battle each other for the spot in the finals that will be played in April 2017. The semi-finals promise an interesting encounter as a lot will be at stake for all the teams. Rollers will be looking to end the Top 8 silverware drought that hit the club for the past three years while Orapa is looking to successfully defend their title. BDF XI on the other hand want to win the cup for the second time while Galaxy will be looking to win their first ever silverware in the elite league.

Rollers qualified for the semi-finals of this prestigious competition after defeating Police XI 2-0 on Monday night. Mark Harrison’s charges proceeded to the next round with a 3-0 aggregate. Rollers joined Jwaneng Galaxy, Orapa United and BDF XI.  Even though the team started off on a low note they managed to come back strong in the second half to score two goals. On the other hand Police XI looked sharp in the middle of the park throughout the game was let down by poor their finishes. Lotlaamoreng’s team could have long sealed the game in the first half but lack of composure in front of the goal posts let them down. In the other game that was played on Saturday, despite the unrest that was reported at Jwaneng Galaxy, the diamond town based outfit qualified for the semi-finals as well. Galaxy moved to the semis after walloping Mochudi Centre Chiefs 2-1 at Jwaneng yesterday (Sunday). Mike Sithole’s charges showed their intentions early in the game as they took the lead in the 23rd minute through Tebogo Semboa.

The Top 8 rookies put the game beyond the 10 men Chiefs on the 68th minute making it 2-0 for the home side. The two teams had entered the match with a 0-0 aggregate following a goalless draw a fortnight ago. Despite their struggle in the league Sithole’s team showed courage to outclass Magosi.
Galaxy’s win ensured that the team joins Orapa United and BDF XI to the semi-finals of the prestigious Mascom Top 8 cup. Orapa went through after their 1-all draw against Miscellaneous on Friday at Serowe Sports Complex. Madinda Ndlovu’s team which is the defending champion proceeded through the away goal rule.  On Saturday BDF XI had an easy march into the semis with a 4-2 aggregate against Gaborone United. The two teams played to a 1-all draw on the fateful day.
