… As veteran Mafoko claims player of tournament award
Jwaneng Galaxy reigned supreme at the Mascom Top 8 awards on Thursday where they finally received the P1.2m prize and crowned it all with all players’ awards on the offer except for one. Only the Yellow Boat Award proved elusive for the Jwaneng side. Galaxy gaffer, Mike Sithole was named the Coach of the Tournament, pocketing a P25 000 cheque. Sithole led Galaxy to glory in the maiden appearance in the Mascom Top 8 tournament. Galaxy also scooped Player of the Tournament award which pitted two of its players Thabang Sesinyi and Boitumelo Mafoko against Orapa United’s Thabang Mosige. In this category Mafoko emerged victorious edging over teammate Sesinyi in the process getting himself a whopping P50 000. Yet again Galaxy’s youthful goal-stopper Anthony Gouws was crowned the Goalkeeper of the Tournament. Gouws clinched the award ahead of Orapa United’s Kaelo Joseph and BDF XI’s Basimanebotlhe Moilwa. He got himself P15 000 in the process. It was only the Yellow boat award that eluded Galaxy. The P30 000 worth award was shared between the joint top goal scorers being Kumbee Katjiteo of BDF XI and Orapa United’s Tendai Nyumasi. The two found themselves sharing the money after they both scored four goals in the tournament. In other awards Keabetswe Dintwa scooped the Referee of the Tournament award taking home P20 000. In the Assistant Referee of the Tournament the award went to Bakwena Simankalele pocketing P10 000. Orapa United received P550 000 for the runners-up position plus P40 000 for travel costs. Teams that were eliminated in the semi-finals pocketed P300 000 plus P35 000 for travel costs. Those which were kicked out of the tournament in the preliminary stages each received P170 000 plus P35 000 for travel costs.
