Township Rollers are 2016/17 BTC Premier league champions. Rollers sealed the championship with a 2-0 win over Black Forest over the weekend. Teenage Mpote’s charges snatched the championship with one game to play to the end of the season. Rollers’ triumph came after other title contenders Jwaneng Galaxy lost 1-3 to Gaborone United (GU). The loss meant Galaxy would never catch Rollers even if the latter lose their final match. Rollers are currently top of the log with 63 points compared to Galaxy’s 58 points. Galaxy can only manage to finish with 61 points. Had Mike Sithole’s team won their weekend game the league would have been decided by the last game which is between the two teams. In the relegation zone Mahalapye United and Green lovers are confirmed to have been relegated. The battle for the third team that will be axed continues next weekend as four teams are in danger of exit. Nico United managed to temporarily evade the axe by beating Sankoyo Bush Bucks 3-1 to make 29 points. Also on the relegation zone is Miscellaneous with 30 points. The Serowe-based outfit lost 1-0 to Security Systems. Police XI also find themselves in a difficult position with 31 points, having lost 1-2 to Gilport lions over the weekend. Sankoyo will also be looking to avoid relegation. Sitting at position 11 with 32 points, they need only for a draw to remain in the Premier league. It will be an interesting fixture this coming weekend as the teams take on each other to settle the matter. Nico will take on the already relegated Hotspurs while Sankoyo lock horns with Police XI. In the other match first division bound Green Lovers will be deciding whether Miscellaneous go or stay when the two meet in the last match.
