The Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) Chief Executive Officer Girish Ramakrishna has been elected into the Africa Cricket Association (ACA) executive committee. Ramakrishna has been roped into the committee as the Development Director at the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Johannesburg recently. As the Development Director, Ramakrishna will be responsible for the development of the game of cricket in the whole region of Africa and will be in office for two years. In an interview the soft spoken Ramakrishna said he is delighted to have been elected to this position. He said the position give him the opportunity to accomplish his aims. “My aim is to take cricket to the next level where we play more competitive games as the region. This position therefore gives me the chance to work towards this as I will be now sitting at an influential position,” he said. Ramakrishna pointed out that he wants to see cricket grow in Africa that all the teams play competitive games. He said his wish is for all nations to engage each other in order to further develop one another. He said there is need for all countries to explore the opportunities that they have.

Though Ramakrishna is happy to have landed the position of Development Director, he explained that it is not about the position. He said what is important is to achieve his mandate. “What will be the use of me sitting at the position and there is no results coming out? It is important to make a difference than just to brag about a position you hold,” he said. Ramakrishna believes that he has been chosen to the position of Development Director because of his work. “Works speaks for you and if you are doing a good job people will be pleased and trust you with high positions. I believe that what I do here in Botswana is known to the continent, hence their trust in me to hold the development director position,” he explained. Ramakrishna has been involved in cricket administration for many years. Since taking over as CEO of BCA there has been tremendous growth at the association, especially in terms of development. BCA boasts of a strong grassroots development programme.
