The 2016/2017 BTC Premiership season has been a very fruitful one for Jwaneng Galaxy. The team won the Mascom Top 8 in their maiden appearance in the competition and finished on position two in the league. They further am dominated the Top 8 awards with Coach Mike Sithole, veteran defender Boitumelo Mafoko and Anthony Gouws winning the coach of the tournament, Player of the tournament and goalkeeper of the tournament awards respectively. Botswana Premier League this week released the nominees for the 2016/17 BTC awards and the duo of Sithole and Gouws made the cut again. The young goalkeeper has been nominated for two awards in the Goalkeeper of the Season and Player of the Season categories. Sithole will be battling it out for his second award in the coach of the season category against Township Roller’s Mogomotsi Mpote and Thaloba Nthaga of Security systems. Looking at the trio, it is going to be a tough competition given the contribution they made at their clubs. Sithole, who will be looking to bag the second award, has done a marvellous job at Galaxy. It was under his tutelage that Galaxy made a turnaround and started challenging for the championships. It was through his leadership that Galaxy nearly won two trophies in its second year in the premier league.

Mpote, on the other hand, also had a very good and impressive run at Township Rollers. Though some might argue that he took over the as coach just in January, he was with the team as an assistant coach. Since taking over Mpote has never lost a game in charge of Rollers in the premiership. He even led the team to successfully defend its BTC premiership title. For Security Systems’ Nthaga has performed to the surprise of many. He guided the team well in its maiden year after promotion into the BTC premiership. The team did not only manage to avoid relegation and stay in the league but finished in the Top 8 bracket. In the goalkeeper of the season award Gouws who will also be looking to bag his second award this season will be battling out for the honour with Rollers goal stopper, Kabelo Dambe and Goitseone Phoko of Gaborone United. Gouws will also be looking to get the Player of the Season award where he will be battling it out with Simisani Mathumo and Lemponye Tshireletso both from Township Rollers.
