Nico United fired their coach Kenneth Mogae this week on the back of unsatisfactory league results despite a record of taking the team to the Mascom Top 8 semi-finals. The team has appointed team manager Busang Moalosi to hold the coaching fort in the mean time until they select a new coach.
The chairman of the team Mothusi Taolo revealed that they have advertised the post, and already have candidates who have shown interest even outside.
“News travel fast. So coaches from different countries like Zambia, Zimbabwe have been calling us to enquire about the post even before we advertised,” he said.
Taolo revealed that after so many failures with the local coaches and some foreign coaches that have worked in Botswana before, they have now decided to get a new fresh face that is new to the premier league, and also to the country.
He said that they is no other reason as to why they decided to part ways with Mogae other than that of performance, because they realised that if they don’t act fast then their team will relegate.
“As it always happens, a coach is there so that results can come forth, but if they don’t then there is no how we can still continue with him,” he said.
He said they will make sure that they get a coach soon. Last season the team also sacked Elijah Chikwanda as their coach who then went to BDF XI. Nico are currently lying on position 11 after winning only two games from 13 and drawing six while losing five.
