Bright new Zebras coach

When the Zebras take on Bafana this Saturday for the Chan Championship, they will be led by a new technical team. This comes after Botswana Football Association appointed Major David Bright as Zebras head coach. Bright bring with him Sthandwa Mogwadi as his assistant coach. The duo brings a wealth of coaching experience to the national team and is confident to revive the team. Speaking at the unveiling ceremony of BFA president Maclean Letshwiti said they brought in Bright as a deliberate move to localise the position. Letswhiti said they felt that for the national team to do well it needed someone who understand local football. He said Bright was hired following the advice from BFA technical advisors who presented Bright as the right man for the job. Bright has signed a three-year contract.  He has been given deliverables that include qualifying for the AFCON 2019 competition and reaching the group stages of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. The coach has also been tasked to reach the finals of the next COSAFA games as well as do well in the CHAN championship games.

Bright, who has vast experience in coaching, believes it is possible to attain the set deliverables. He said looking at the current squad, the team need improvement on coordination and physical strength. “We are very impressed how the team is playing. They only need coordination to work together and elevate their level of fitness,” said Bright. With his philosophy of believing that the national team has to produce results, Bright has already brought into camp some players to beef up the existing squad. Called into camp are Goitseone Phoko, Letlhogonolo Senwelo, Kaelo Kgaswane, Edwin Olerilwe, Elijah Leririma, Segolame Boy, Thabang Mosigi and Godiraone Modingwane. To make it easier for the national team to have an ample pool of players BFA president has revealed that they are working on setting up national team B. Letshwiti explained that this is to have players readily available for the national team. He said the B team will also be as active as the A team. This he explained is to make sure the players are ready to fill in the first team at any time.
