Following their brilliant performance in the local Mascom Volleyball league this season Kutlwano Volleyball club ladies’ team are now eyeing a gold medal at the upcoming Confederation of African Zone 6 Volleyball Championships set for Mozambique from 15th-19th December 2014. The team’s head coach Isaac Samuel said they are going to Mozambique only for a gold medal this year.
Kutlwano go to Mozambique a fired-up team following their recent win of the 2014 Mascom volleyball league championships. The team has proved to be a volleyball power house as it has been tormenting local teams to win the Mascom Championship in consecutive years. Some of their players have also recently been given awards for their outstanding performance throughout the league. They got awards of best server, best setter and the best lady’s coach.
Kutlwano have also played in the Zone 6 competition since 2009. Even though the team failed to get a gold medal last year after losing to Mafolofolo Volleyball Club in the finals, this year they are confident no team will stop them. Samuel said preparations for the championships have been going on well and he is happy with the team. “Mentally and physically the team is ready. We have been working on this since the beginning of the month (December). I believe that we are ready for any team that will be brought our way,” he said.
Samuel said not even Mafolofolo will stand on their way like they did in 2013. Kutlwano suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of Mafolofolo last year to lose on the gold medal. However, the team is confident to continue their good record this year by finishing the year in style with a gold medal at Mozambique. What is boosting the coach’s hope is that the team is without any major injuries.
Since the Botswana National Sport Council (BNSC) could not give local teams any funds to attend the championships the team’s travel to Mozambique has been made possible by their Zone 6 sponsor Vincent Excellent Tours. The tour operator sponsored the team with transport to and from Mozambique. The team’s chairperson Kagiso Meswele also revealed their team sponsor Exclusive Insurance also helped them a lot. Meswele thanked Botswana Volleyball Federation for the support they accorded them as well.
He concurred with the coach about their preparedness, saying they are going to Mozambique to get the gold medal. He said since the team has been doing very well in the domestic league they are in a good shape to challenge for the top position at Zone 6. The competition has been dominated by local clubs and therefore Kutlwano are confident to walk away with the price this time around despite that they may face fierce competition from Mafolofolo.
