Preparations for the upcoming Gaborone City Mayor’s Marathon continues to gain momentum as more sponsors and supporters are coming on board. After Choppies became a Gold sponsor last week, Jack’s Gym has also jumped in to offer support for the marathon. The marathon, which is billed for 11 September 2017, is expected to attract 10 000 participants from Botswana and the region. Jack’s Gym has partnered with the marathon organiser to provide training facilities for all those who registered for the race. The participants will also enjoy free advice for the gym’s experienced instructors on how to prepare for the marathon. Jack’s Gym Managing Director Jagdish Shah said this week that running is the best exercise ever and the marathon provides the opportunity for the people to engage on good exercise. Shah went on to say it is Jack’s Gym’ to provide opportunity for good health of people through exercise hence the decision to be part of the GC Mayor’s Marathon. “The marathon will in some way help Jack’s Gym’ objective of good health to the people of Gaborone,” he said.
Shah hopes that the running will not end with the marathon but will continue in the city. He called the people of Gaborone to continue engaging in running as it is the best exercise ever. “With this initiative I am sure the city will be improved to have more running tracks that people can continue using even after the race. Let this be a start of a healthy living lifestyle for the people of Gaborone,” he said. Shah urged all those who have registered for the marathon and may need some technical advice to contract the gym. As part of the partnership with the marathon organisers Shah revealed that the gym will provide a special dispensation for all those who registered for the race to use their facilities to prepare for the race. The Mayor of Gaborone Kagiso Thutlwe thanked Jack’s Gym management for the move to partner with them in the marathon. Thutlwe said Shah has always been passionate in sport and this will help them greatly. The mayor said the initiative is meant to energise the city of Gaborone in areas of health and wellness as well as boost tourism. The marathon is expected to be an annual event.
