Bright chooses ‘experience’

Zebras Head Coach David Bright has a mammoth task to restore the team’s image that has continued to degrade in recent years. In an effort to turn the tables around and start rebuilding the team’s image, Bright seems to have gone back to the cross roads. Bright this week announced a team that will play during the Independence celebrations friendly match. In the squad Bright turned to the experienced players, some of whom were part of the team that competed at the 2012 AFCON games. In the early 90s the Zebras were code named ‘Weeping boys of Africa’ because of the defeats they suffered continuously. However, the Zebras improved with time and eventually ended up qualifying for the 2012 AFCON under the guidance of Stanley Tshoswane. The team nonetheless has regressed in recent past and it is up to Bright to restore it to winning ways. It looks like Bright has now gone back to cross roads as he roped into his squad some of the experienced players. These include Jerome Ramatlhakwana, Noah Maposa as well as Tebogo Semboa. Since the team has been struggling in the conversion up front the coach believes Ramatlhakwana and Semboa will necessary fire power upfront. Ramatlhakwane had been instrumental in Tshoswane’s 2012 team that reached the last 16 of the AFCON competition. The Township Rollers man was the tournament qualifiers’ top goal scorer having scored crucial goals against the likes of Tunisia and Morocco. The 26-man squad however is made up of a mixture of experienced players and youth. This displays Bright’s philosophy that the national team has to bring results. When he was unveiled as the Zebras coach he revealed that he believes the team must be evenly composed with experienced players and young players. It remains to be seen if this could be the beginning of Bright’s restoration of the Zebras image and Batswana’s pride.
