Nijel Amos is the 2017 IAAF Diamond League 800m champion. Amos on Friday finished ahead of his competitors in Brussels clocking 1:44.53 to claim the $50 000 prize money. His win make him three times diamond league winner having won the series in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Amos, who is based in America, became the second Motswana to bring home a Diamond trophy this year following Isaac Makwala’s win in the 400m category recently. Botswana also had a representative in the women 400m final where Lydia Jele who was making her maiden appearance at the finals of the Diamond League finished on position 8. Jele clocked 53.11 seconds. She is, however, not the first Motswana woman to participate at the diamond league. The former 400m women world champion Amantle Montsho also competed at this series. Montsho was the first Motswana to ever win this prestigious title in 2013.
