Rollers, Galaxy in Top 8 thrill

As the Mascom Top 8 defending champions Jwaneng Galaxy look to re-write history to become the first team to successfully defend the title. But that will not be easy as they face high riding defending league champions Township Rollers in the semi-finals of the lucrative competition. The two were placed together in a draw conducted this week. The match between the two champions promise fireworks as both teams have something to play for. While Galaxy are looking to defend their title Rollers on the other hand have made a resolution to win all silverware on offer this season. Rollers also will be looking to end their long drought of silver in the Mascom Top 8 competition. The last time Rollers tasted glory in the competition was in the 2011/12 season, beating the then ECCO City Greens 3-1. Ever since then they have made it to three finals but failed to lift the trophy. Galaxy chairman Njabulo Gilika said they are ready to defend their title and are working hard towards preparing for the semi-finals. Gilika said his team is strong enough to take any challenge that comes their way. Galaxy won this championship last season by beating Orapa United in a tightly contested match. He believes his team will be able to reproduce its composure to defend their title. Nonetheless the odds are heavy against them as they have never beaten Rollers.
It will be a great challenge for them to go through the formidable Rollers that remain unbeaten in the league this season. Rollers spokesperson Bafana Pheto reiterated their position, saying the mandate is to win all cups this season. Pheto said they have long started preparations for this competition and the team will deliver desired results. He said they will fight with all to reach the finals. Rollers will get into the game with an improved depth as they have signed utility midfielder Ofentse Nato. The return of Galabgwe Moyana and Joel Mogorosi from injury is also a boost to Rollers. The other semi-final match will see Orapa United and Gaborone United locking horns. This is another fixture that is expected to produce some fireworks. It is the first time the two meet in the Mascom Top 8 clash. The two sides are looking to add onto their tally of wins in this competition. Orapa won the championship once while GU are the only team to have won it twice. Orapa spokesperson Kabo Williams is excited about the fixture, saying they are looking forward to it. Williams said they are preparing very well for the game and are aiming to reach the finals.
