IWG: Botswana to hand-over to New Zealand

The International Working Group on Women and Sport (IWG) has sent a delegation to Auckland, New Zealand to officially handover the office management of the IWG to new the new host.

The delegation comprise of the 7th IWG World Conference Patron and Minister of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Hon. Dorcas Makgato, IWG Co-Chairperson Ruth Maphorisa, IWG Secretary General Game Mothibi as well as two officers from the IWG Secretariat team.

The main purpose of the visit is to: Facilitate discussions between the Minister, Hon. Dorcas Makgato and the Minister for Sport and Acting Minister for Women New Zealand on how New Zealand Government could effectively support the IWG Office, benchmarking on the Botswana model; Formally pass the management of the IWG Secretariat from Botswana to New Zealand;  Further the strategic direction of the organization for the four years 2018-2022 with the New Zealand Women in Sport Aotearoa team (New Host organization)  Share learnings from the Botswana 2014-2018 Secretariat management as well as Conference Management; Experience Auckland and New Zealand in support of promotion of the 8th IWG World Conference, Auckland 2022.

The visit is envisioned to ensure the seamless continuity of the strategic direction of the organization as management changes hand from Botswana to New Zealand. The delegation is expected back in the country on the 19th of September 2018. The IWG Gaborone will seize operations from the 30th September when the New Zealand Office starts operation. Information on future plans for Women in Sport in Botswana and roll out of legacy will be shared will be shared in due time.
