Chiefs, GU woes continue

Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Gaborone United (GU) are finding it difficult to regain their momentum in the current 2018\19 premier league season. With six league games played, both teams have failed to rise to the occasion.

It is not a norm for Magosi (Chiefs) and The Reds (GU) supporters to find their teams languishing at the bottom end of the log table. GU are 12th while Chiefs are on position 13.

Out of possible 18 points from the six (6) games that each side has played so far, both teams have managed to collect only three points. GU managed only one (1) victory so far with three draws and two losses. They have scored only six goals and conceded eight.

Chiefs’ supporters have recently expressed displeasure at the club’s performance, having lost three games and drawn three. Chiefs have scored four goals and conceded 10.

This week both sides could only settle for draws.  Chiefs came from behind to secure a point against Prisons XI while GU played to 1-all draw against Sankoyo Bush Bucks.

GU and Chiefs’ pre-season training did not inspire confidence as opposed to other sides like Township Rollers, Jwaneng Galaxy and Extension Gunners who beefed up their squads.

Chiefs roped in Philani Mabhena as coach while GU settled for their former player Steven Maposa as an interim coach.

GU fans are blaming the loss of key players for their misery.  They lost Kabelo Seakanyeng and Thatayaone Kgamanyane South Africa’s Chippa United following their impressive performance with the senior national team in the COSAFA Cup.

To add salt to the wound, Rollers also snatched away their only remaining hope by signing in the dazzling goal poacher Tumisang Orebonye.

Galaxy are currently perched at the top of the table with 14 points with the rejuvenated BDF XI on second position – also with 14 points. Rollers moved into the top three following a 3-0 victory over Police XI on Thursday, separated by only a point from the top two sides.

Surprise packages in Sharps and Shooting Stars and Police X1 are also enjoying a good run in the season with Sharps seating pretty on position four with 13 points.
