1st division season opens

The Debswana National First Division (NFD) 2018\19 season – for both South and North leagues –officially commenced this weekend – October 13.

The league should have started in August but was postponed for undisclosed reasons. The 2018\19 league campaign promises to be more exciting following new logistics and processes that have been introduced.

For the first time in history, the first division teams will see their games being televised and broadcast live after the glorious agreement between Botswana Football Association (BFA) and Baboneng Film Productions which saw the two penning a five-year contract for the live coverage of the games starting from this season.

The First Division North official opening game will be between two Francistown rivals and former premier league sides Great North Tigers and Tafic. The game will start at 3 pm.

In other games in the region Motlakase Power Dynamos will be play Morupule Wanderers and Nico United will play Sua Flamengos.

Meanwhile, the South the relegated Gilport Lions will have their first date debut in the lower campaign against Modipane United while Mogoditshane Fighters will clash against Uniao Flamengo Santos and Black Peril play Blue Stars in Tlokweng. Mochudi Rovers will be away to Tsabong-based Black Rangers.

With the sponsorship from Botswana’s leading mining company Debswana and now accompanying live broadcasts of their games, it is anticipated that the first division league will this season be the most exciting ever; with more fans likely to turn up for their sides.
