The Botswana team of boxers is doing well in the Zone VI Boxing tourney having put in brilliant performances on Friday to dominate at the semi-final stage.
Local boxers dominated most of the categories and did not lose courage when female star boxer Keamogetse Kenosi lost in the early stage.
Kenosi lost in the 51 to 57 Kg women category against Ramla Ali of Somalia in the first round, losing 4-1.
On Friday with Molatlhegi Kobamelo won his bout 3-2 against Kembo Miguel of Angola in the much contested light fly 46 -49 Kg category and Mahommed Rajab added to the Angola woes by defeating in the fly 52 kg category another Angolan Nunu Anthonio Albert 5-0.
George Molwantwa continued a good run in the 56 kg category by also beating Mafokante Thabang of South Africa 5-0 while Treasure Moreri won 4-1 against another Angolan Gomes Francisco Manuela in the light 60 kg category.
Botswana Boxing Association (BOBA) Public Relations Officer Taolo Tlouetsile said the team has done quite well looking at the impressive perfomance that the boxers had put in.
He said this means that they will have a good team for the Africa Boxing Championship in Morocco.
“You can see that our local boxers are showing a high level of growth and it is really promising for more success in the future. They are still young and a lot will be gained from them going forward; without any doubt,” said Tlouetsile on the sidelines of the tournament.
The Zone IV boxing championships is a preparation tournament for the Africa Boxing Championship. It has attracted SADC countries including South Africa, Botswana, Angola, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, Lesotho and eSwatini with Somalia participating as guests.
