The opposition coalition, Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) will launch its long anticipated manifesto over the weekend at Maun Sports Complex. The UDC North West regional chairman, Goretetse Kekgonegile told The Patriot on Sunday that all is set for the manifesto launch, where the coalition will make history as the only political party to launch a manifesto outside Gaborone.
"Despite the setback when the national airliner cancelled flights to Maun on the weekend of the manifesto launch, the event is going to be a success and all our leadership will attend as planned," said Kekgonegile, confidently.
The mood among party activists was high throughout the week, with hordes of supporters and sympathisers arriving in the tourist town in large numbers towards the weekend. By Friday many hotels and guest houses reported full bookings, with local small businesses also preparing to make a killing from the historic launch. Kekgonegile said accommodation for members who will be coming from 57 constituencies around the country, has been arranged in some schools around Maun.
The programme for the launch begins on Friday night with a Fund raising dinner at Riley’s Cresta hotel, open to the public. A table with the President of UDC, Duma Boko costs P500 while those sharing a table with UDC Vice President Dumelang Saleshando will part with P400. The table occupied by Secretary General and UDC Members of Parliament will cost P300 while an ordinary table goes for P200.
Following the dinner, on Saturday morning proceedings begin with a march against corruption led by Boko, Saleshando and Chairperson Motlatsi Molapisi, Kekgonegile said. The march will start at RAC building then finish at Mummies complex and a motorcade will start touring the two constituencies of Maun East and West then proceed to Maun stadium by 1230 hrs. The Maun East parliamentary candidate (Kekgonegile) said after the motorcade they will proceed to lunch and the launch will begin at exactly 2pm for the presentation of the 2019 Elections Manifesto, and the presentation of parliamentary and council candidates who will represent the UDC in Maun East and West.
