Jwaneng Galaxy striker Tebogo Sembowa has a special place in the history of the Mascom Top 8 tournament. He is the only player to have won each Top 8 final he has featured in for all the teams he has played for.
Sembowa’s lucrative success in the Top 8 has seen him win his fifth Mascom Top 8 and second title with Galaxy. His first Top 8 title was with Rollers in 2012. He has also won the cup two times with Gaborone United.
Miguel Do Costa’s team beat GU 2-0 to win the second Top 8 title following the first one under the tutelage of Mike Sithole during the 2016\17 season.
The on fire Galaxy’s massive victory meant a lot for Sembowa who now has won the competition for the 5th time in the eight seasons of the tournament.
Tebza, as Sembowa is known to his legion of fans, could not hide his excitement over the outstanding record and achievement that he possesses in the Mascom Top 8 chapter.
He said his success in the tournament has been a tremendous one.
“My career has been an outstanding one; especially in the Top 8. It is not all about winning these titles but what is important to me is that one day when I have hanged my boots I will still be able to reflect on my success as a player and I have no doubt it will be a good one to cherish forever,” he said.
He said having won the second Mascom Top 8 title, his team was now turning into a powerhouse in the local football. He believes that the team boosts of good depth and balance with both experience and dazzling talent of youngsters such as Thero Setsile, Lebogang Ditsele and Gilbert Baruti who can lead the club to more glory.
“Yes, definitely I want to win the league with Galaxy. This is the most important thing I want to achieve next. We have a very good team which is capable of winning in the domestic setup as well as challenging the best in the continental competitions such as the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup that we will feature in next season,” Sembowa added.
Sembowa on Da Costa
He said Coach Miguel Da Costa was destined to take Galaxy to greater heights, having introduced a winning mentality among players who have also adapted well to his philosophy, tactics or football language.
“He is a good coach and he has done well in building the player’s confidence. This is why every player is able to perform and deliver for the team when given the opportunity. His philosophy is all about winning,” declared Sembowa about his mentor.
